Channel Congregation
Woodbridge Church
3518 Channel Highway
Woodbridge
The Channel Congregation meets in the Woodbridge Church which is
in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel area situated about 45km south of Hobart at 3518 Channel Highway, opposite the
Woodbridge District High School. The Channel Congregation has another
building at Kettering (7 km north of Woodbridge), which is jointly owned with
the Catholic Church and used for special meetings and services (see below).
The D'Entrecasteaux Channel area features
orchards, farms, beaches, harbours with fishing boats, fresh waterways,
beautiful villages, heritage buildings and B&B cottages.
Worship times are great times of rejoicing with members from Anglican, Pentecostal and Reformed streams, along with former Methodists,
Congregationalists and Presbyterians and our morning Service is a blend
of traditional and contemporary features centred on the
Preaching of the Word. We rejoice that barriers are irrelevant and
we feel real sense of the presence of our Lord and the unity of the
Spirit within the Congregation at Woodbridge.
August 1998 the Congregation celebrated 100 years of continuous worship
in the Woodbridge Church. The foundation stones (yes there are 2) were
laid in April 1898 and 4 months later they open the church for its first
service of worship, August 1898.
In the Bicentenary year of Australia (1988) a small group of Church
members under guidance created a wall hanging for the Woodbridge Church. This banner
represents the life of the church in the Channel Area and now hangs in
the Woodbridge Church. (Click here
